Treating Anxiety

Anxiety is a feeling of unease, or worry about the future.  Moderate anxiety is not abnormal, particularly when faced with stressful situations.  However, if your anxiety is severe or lasts a long time, it can interfere with your everyday life.

Symptoms of anxiety include:

  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Racing heartbeat
  • Shortness of breath or rapid breathing
  • Dizziness
  • Sweating
  • Reoccurring negative thoughts

Anxiety can persist even when the immediate stressor has passed. Some clients notice the focus of their anxiety shifts on to another area of their lives, or another "hook".  Generalised anxiety disorder is a term used to describe free-floating anxiety where a sufferer can't pinpoint the immediate source of their anxiety but the symptoms are nevertheless, intense.
